During the 2018-2019 school year, the Science Specialist and 4th Grade Teacher collaborated so that they could find a way to create a scientific connection and open communication between the school and families. Their goal was to focus on increasing science discussion since time for science in the classroom is limited. This promoted a home-school connection as students can inform their family as to what they have learned in science, and families can share their scientific knowledge with their students. To engage students and their families in scientific discussion at home, four optional STEM take-home challenges were created and distributed throughout the year. This aligns with Priority 5 of the district goals, which is to improve student learning experiences in and out of school by engaging families as partners.
